A Heap of Anime Updates Dropped During the Festive Season

The winter break present a multitude of pastimes considerably more enjoyable than catching up on the updates: discovering surprises, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing patience techniques to not arguing with loved ones. It is wished you were able to accomplish all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of exciting news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you didn't see any, here is a summary of the juiciest bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. Season 3 will come back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. But, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, nowadays, they must be mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the creator's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and goodwill, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.

This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.
